An overview on our Department

Prof. O. J. Ojo B.Sc., M.Sc., Ph.D. Head of Department, Department of Geology



The Department of Geology was established following the senate decision of March 20, 2014 to create the Department in the Faculty of Science of the University. The Academic Programme is designed/structured in line with the National Universities Commission (NUC) Benchmark Minimum Academic Standards (BMAS) specifications. It started admitting students in the 2014/2015 Academic session. Nineteen (19) students were admitted through the UTME and Post-UTME conducted by the University. 

Geology Department started with seven (7) academic staff, four (4) laboratory staff and three (3) administrative staff. Presently, academic staff comprises of three Professors, one Reader, five Senior Lecturers, one Lecturer I, two Lecturer II, and two Assistant Lecturers. The Departmental courses are coded GLY. Prominent feature of the programme is the exposure of all intending B.Sc. Geology graduates to courses in major areas of Geology, Exploration techniques as well as computer science. This is to ensure a high level of competence of the graduates of Geology and increase their flexibility in fitting into diverse careers and industries.
